This class covered the fundamentals of computer networking through hands-on socket programming and client-server communication. I learned how to build UDP and TCP applications, send and receive messages between clients and servers, measure round-trip time, and handle packet loss and connection management. For example, I wrote a UDP echo server that received messages and sent them back, a UDP ping client that sent 10 pings and calculated RTT statistics, and a chat server that allowed two clients to exchange messages in real time using threads. These projects helped me understand how networking protocols work in practice, how data is transmitted across sockets, and how servers manage multiple connections and communication patterns.
